Are best before and use by dates still up to date? The potential of time-temperature indicators in the fight against food waste

In Germany, around 11 million tons of food are thrown away every year. A representative survey by HelloFresh has shown that one in five people blindly follow best-before labels and therefore throw away food unnecessarily. The current labeling has not been updated for over 70 years. Time for an update, says the Smart Food Tech Coalition. The alliance, founded by HelloFresh, is campaigning for a regulatory update to innovative food labeling such as time-temperature indicators to help private households throw away less food. Tilman Eichstädt, COO at HelloFresh, introduces the Smart Food Tech Coalition and talks about HelloFresh's experience with time-temperature indicators and their potential in the fight against food waste.
